GC Bans Religious Liberty

SILVER SPRING, Md. — In a statement released this morning, the General Conference has banned religious liberty among church employees and has strongly discouraged “dangerous exercise of personal conscience among church membership.”

While stressing that religious liberty was still a serious priority in society insofar as it allowed the proper practice of GC-defined Adventism in parts of the world that still trample upon “God-given rights,” the statement said that responding to other promptings of conscience on one’s own heart was “way overrated.”

“If what the Holy Spirit impresses upon you agrees with the parts of church policy that the GC has decided to enforce then we won’t stand in your way,” said the statement, “If not, you can expect a visit from Unity Enforcement.”
